Zcash Ironwood: NU6.3, Orchard and Supply Integrity

Ironwood is the Zcash shielded value pool activated through NU6.3 in July 2026 after the discovery and correction of an Orchard proof-soundness vulnerability. It is distinct from the original Orchard pool, which became restricted, but continues using the Orchard transaction protocol and Halo 2. Its introduction illustrates how privacy systems must maintain monetary integrity while protecting confidential transactions. Ironwood itself does not implement Zcash Shielded Assets: the OrchardZSA multi-asset extension remains in development. ryo.news follows the security, upgrade and governance implications of this transition.
